The Transport and Industrial Workers’ Union expresses great sorrow and a deep sense of loss on the death of Comrade James Jones, who served on the executive of TIWU, as a Vice President from 1978 to 2003 before he moved on to the Communication Workers’ Union, where he served the working class until his untimely death.. Comrade Jones, who served TIWU during the difficult but exhilarating times of the 1970’s, proved himself to be not just a steadfast and loyal servant of the working class, but is widely acknowledged in industrial relations circles as a highly skilled and vastly experienced grievance/labour relations officers, one of the best advocates of organised labour around the table and in the Industrial Court. Comrade Jones funeral will take place on Monday November 10th 2008. The service will be held at the St. Charles Catholic Church, Eastern Main Road, Tunapuna. He will be buried at the Tunapuna Cemetery. His body may be viewed before the funeral service at the Communication Workers’ Union Hall on Henry Street in Port of Spain up to 12:30 pm. Members of TIWU are asked to pay their respect to Comrade Jones, whose adult life was inextricably bound up with the fortunes of the union and to whom many officers of the union, at all levels, owe a huge debt of gratitude for his advice, support, knowledge and example. Rest in peace, brave working class warrior! |
